Why is EvCo DSL better than Wireless?
I thought EvCo was a "wireless" company! Why are you dumping this technology?

Most "wireless" internet companies operate using the 2.4 MHz or 5.8 MHz UNLICENSED radio spectrum (regardless of the protocol - whether proprietary or "standard" such as 802.11b). Since the Federal Communications Commission generally does not regulate this spectrum, nor provide channel allocation in a given area, the potential for interference between Wireless Internet Service Providers (WISPs) is likely to grow in the future. In addition, signals sent out by other devices such as cordless phones, baby monitors, wireless access points, etc. (all operating at the same unlicensed frequencies), will also cause interference and will eventually raise the "noise floor" in the area.

Just imagine thousands of devices sending out signals in a fairly narrow frequency band, and trying to decipher what the unit that you are supposed to be talking to is saying. A good analogy would be standing in a crowded room, attempting to talk to a specific person on the other side of the room while everybody else in the room is also talking. Oh, and by the way - you can't shout (FCC Regulations limit transmit power). You can see that as the room gets more and more crowded it becomes harder and harder to hear the person that you are interested in. Talking in a different language (protocol) makes no difference - it still gets harder to hear.

While we are extremely proud to have maintained our full wireless service through the blizzard of March 2003 (while cable went down for several days, and other wireless providers had service disruptions) we believe that the future for unlicensed Wireless Internet Service is bleak.

DSL is simply "way better" than wireless, which is subject to "line of sight" issues, weather related problems, and the likely degradation of service that is sure to come as the spectrum gets more crowded. Evergreen, for instance has four (soon to be three) wireless providers. Since DSL comes into your home on your phone line, none of the aforementioned is a problem.
