Netscape 7 E-Mail Setup
To setup Netscape 7 for Mac (Classic and OS X) to send and receive e-mail, follow these steps:
You will need the following information in order to setup an account.
E-mail Address: (similar to "name@evcohs.com")
User Name: (usually the part before the @ sign)
Password: (the password for your mail account)
Incoming Mail Server: ( "evcohs.com") for your EvCo. mail
Outgoing Mail Server: ("evcohs.com" for your EvCo mail)
With Netscape running:
Setup the 'Outgoing Server (SMTP)'
1 - Go to the 'Window' menu and select 'Mail & Newsgroups'.
2 - Go to the 'Edit' menu and select 'Mail/News Account Settings...'
3 - Click on 'Outgoing Server (SMTP)' in the left navigation.
4 - Enter the 'Server Name:' for the outgoing mail server ("evcohs.com" for your EvCo mail):.
5 - Click 'OK' and your setup is complete.
Setup the e-mail account:
1 - In the mail and news group settings (Windows menu -> Mail & Newsgroups -> Edit menu -> Mail/News Account Settings... )
2 - Click on 'New Account' in the bottom left of the window.
3 - Select 'Email account', then click the 'Next' button.
4 - In the Identity window, enter
- Your Name - This is the name people will see when you send them an e-mail address. I can be any name or nickname you like.
- Email Address - Enter the e-mail address you are setting up.
Click the 'Next' button to continue.
5 - For the type of incoming server for your account, select 'POP'.
- Incoming Server - enter your incoming mail server name.("evcohs.com" for your EvCo mail):
Click the 'Next' button to continue.
6 - Enter your 'User Name'. This is the part of your e-mail address to the left of the '@' sign. For instance, janeandjohn@evcohs.com has a username of 'janeandjohn'.
7 - Enter your 'Account Name'. This is used by Netscape to differentiate among different account setups in Netscape. We recommend you enter your e-mail address, although you can enter any descriptive name that you like.
Click the 'Next' button to continue.
8 - Click the 'Finish' button to finish the setup.
*** We have seen what appears to be a bug in Netscape for Mac where after setting up an e-mail address, you cannot send mail. We have seen this happen when the outgoing e-mail server was set to a server name from an old account when the new account setup was entered. After the setup, then SMTP server settings are then entered for the new account. The fix is to make sure your SMTP server settings are correct, THEN setup the mail account. If the setup has already been completed and you cannot send mail and all of the settings look correct, 'Remove' the account and then re-create it. |
